We are inviting ABC Study participants to express interest in joining a new Community Advisory Group, a small group of volunteers who will help shape the future of research undertaken by the Cancer Epidemiology Division. The Cancer Epidemiology Division conducts a broad range of research to produce high-quality, timely evidence identifying the causes of cancer, predictors of cancer risk, and factors affecting survival following a cancer diagnosis, to improve prevention, screening and survival.
Community involvement is important at every stage of research, from identifying research questions, applying for grant funding, collecting data, analysing findings and sharing results. The Community Advisory Group is one way we are ensuring that community voices are heard and reflected in our work.
What is the Community Advisory Group?
This group will act as a sounding board for Cancer Epidemiology Division research, including the ABC Study. Community Advisory Group members may be asked to:
- Help shape new research questions based on the ABC Study or other research resources
- Provide input to, and feedback on, grant applications
- Contribute to the ongoing monitoring, communication and evaluation of specific research projects (including the ABC study) and their findings
- Contribute to discussions about ABC Study priorities and participant experience
- Share insights that help us better support and engage with our diverse community.
Who can join?
We’re keen to hear from ABC Study participants of all ages, backgrounds, and geographical regions (including more remote areas) so that the Community Advisory Group reflects the diversity of the Australian population.
Why join?
This is a chance to have your say and share your experience to enrich the research work of the Cancer Epidemiology Division. Being part of the Community Advisory Group is a unique opportunity to contribute to research that affects real people. Your lived experience, opinions, and ideas can help make the research led by the Cancer Epidemiology Division, more relevant, accessible, and impactful.
What’s the commitment?
Participation in the group will take place online, with 1-2 meetings each year. There may also be opportunities for some members to be more involved through specific projects or activities, depending on their interest and availability. We are interested in hearing from participants interested in joining the group for at least 1 year.
