Introducing Abbie Mutimer

Abbie MutimerHi, I’m Abbie Mutimer, the Participant Engagement Officer for the ABC Study at Cancer Council Victoria. I studied a double degree in Public Health and Health Promotion and Commerce at university because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. I joined the ABC Study team in 2021, as I am passionate about cancer research and prevention and do this work in memory of my Grandpa Peter, who passed away from pancreatic cancer.

Since joining the ABC Study, I have had the chance to work across a few different roles, starting out as a Project Officer on the phones, helping our participants to complete their questionnaires and giving advice about providing samples. Then, I managed our Sleep Pilot Study, coordinating day-to-day operations including helping participants set up the sleep devices. I also spent time as the Participant Contact Systems Coordinator, managing the systems we use to collect data and stay in touch with you.

In my current role, my focus is on improving and reviewing communications with participants, whether that’s via email, phone call or letter to ensure everything we send is clear and informative, and as helpful as possible. I recently led the ABC Study website updates, giving the study a fresh look and making the website easier to navigate. I am also active in participant follow up and engagement, and I enjoy speaking to many of you on the phone and via email.

Outside of work, I love to travel and spend time with my family, friends and dog, Kevin. I am passionate about making sure all our participants feel supported and valued throughout their journey with the study. I’m proud to be part of a study that’s helping shape the future of cancer research, and I’m excited to see the insights our third wave of follow-up will bring.
