Catch up with Associate Professor Brigid Lynch

Associate Professor Brigid Lynch is a Senior Researcher within the Cancer Epidemiology Division at Cancer Council Victoria. Brigid is the Principal Investigator of the Accelerometer Study within the ABC Study.

Brigid received her PhD in Population Health from The University of Queensland in 2008 and undertook postdoctoral training in Calgary, Alberta, Canada (2009-2011) and at Baker Medical Research Institute (2012-2014).

Brigid joined Cancer Council Victoria’s Cancer Epidemiology Division in August 2014. Brigid is an Associate Professor at the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health , University of Melbourne. She is the Coordinator for the Cancer in Society subject that forms part of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre Master of Cancer Sciences degree.

Brigid’s research focuses on how physical activity and sedentary behaviour are associated with cancer risk, the biological mechanisms underlying risk, and health outcomes for cancer survivors. Brigid is also the Principal Investigator on a project to systematically review the mechanisms underpinning the reduction in breast cancer risk associated with physical activity, funded by the World Cancer Research Fund.

Associate Professor Lynch is involved in epidemiological analyses of the Melbourne Collaborative Cohort Study, with particular focus on physical activity.
