The ABC Study is working with people across Australia to help learn more about the causes of cancer and other diseases. This research is only possible because of the contribution of those who take part in the study.

Thank you for taking part in the ABC Study. 18,107 (and counting) Australians have registered! Over 12,000 participants have submitted their questionnaires. We have collected over 11,750 saliva samples and almost 2,000 blood samples.

Where have all the men gone?

The ABC Study needs you to help us spread the word! Over 18,000 people have already registered for the study. However, we need 50,000 for the best research outcomes. To date, only 15% of participants are males. We aim to achieve closer to 50%. We need your help!

Richard Participant

Participant highlight - Richard

Like many of us, Richard has cancer in his family. Taking part in research to help others is also in Richard’s family. His father joined the first UK Aspirin study in the 1960’s. Richard originally took part in the Health 2020 Study, which was set up by Cancer Council Victoria in 1990 to investigate the roles of diet and lifestyle in the development of cancer and other diseases. Now Richard has joined the ABC Study.

ABC at Relay for Life

The ABC Study thanks Kirrily

The ABC Study would like to send a big thank you to Kirrily Guinan. Kirrily has gone to great efforts to help promote the ABC Study, both through her work in Relay for Life and throughout her local community. She has promoted the study through her local triathlon club and even included the ABC Study logo on the club’s kits this year. The club has also raised funds for the study through a triathlon event in Martha Cove this April.

The ABC Study is asking about 10 – 20% of people taking part to provide a blood sample, as an additional part of the study. These people have at least one close relative with cancer.

ABC Study at Relay for Life

The ABC Study Team attended 5 Relay for Life events in Victoria in the first half of 2016. We were well received by Cardinia, Ballarat, Casey, Bendigo and Wyndham and in Adelaide. We have also been represented by Cancer Council WA Staff at several events in WA.
